OLER SWIM DOCK

Mr. and Mrs. Oler

A wonderful swim dock has long been a dream of people wanting to improve Texoma Youth Camp. It is a dream no longer!

Thanks to a generous donation, the new Gayle and Mary Oler Swim Dock was dedicated in May and was christened by delirious swimmers in June. The kids love this dock.

Gayle Oler was the head of Boles Children’s Home in the 1950s. With the assistance of congressman Sam Rayburn, he personally picked out the TYC property on Lake Texoma shortly after the lake was completed. His vision and enthusiasm was responsible for this wonderful camp.

It only made sense then that the dock should be named for Mr. Oler and his wife, Mary. His passion was for kids, and nowhere is that passion demonstrated more than in the joy seen in the kids as they frolic in the swim area and build sand castles on the beach.

In a sense, the Oler Swim Dock is a bridge between the past and the future. It represents the tireless, sacrificial service that made Texoma Youth Camp a viable camp and a wonderful place for kids to grow.

At the same time, the Oler Swim Dock foreshadows the numerous plans that we have for the future–plans to make this camp an even more effective influence in the lives of children.

Gayle and Mary would be proud of today’s Texoma Youth Camp, and we intend to keep it that way.
